Few Indian journalists possess the varied experience of S. Nihal Singh. Starting as a subeditor in the early 1950s, he has been, at various times, a staff reporter, a political correspondent, a foreign correspondent and an editor. His sojourns abroad have been in Singapore, Islamabad, Moscow, London, New York, Paris and Dubai. He has edited two of India’s leading newspapers, The Statesman and the Indian Express, was founding editor of The Indian Post and editor of the Khaleej Times in Dubai. He has authored several books, including: The Yogi and the Bear: A Study of Indo–Soviet Relations; Indira’s India; The Gang and 900 Million: A China Diary; I Discover America; Indian Days, Indian Nights (a novel); and Blood and Sand: The West Asian Tragedy. Nihal Singh received the International Editor of the Year Award in New York in 1978 for his role as editor of The Statesman during the Indian Emergency. He lives in New Delhi.
